What compounding means
Compounding is when a pharmacist prepares a medication for one person, following a prescription from their doctor, nurse practitioner or veterinarian. It’s for when a commercially available product doesn’t fit: the wrong form, the wrong strength, or an ingredient someone can’t have. Our trained pharmacists prepare non-sterile compounds in our onsite lab and work directly with your prescriber. How compounding can help
Kids who refuse medicine
If your child won’t take a bitter liquid or can’t swallow a pill, ask your prescriber about a compounded version. We can often prepare it as a flavoured liquid or another child-friendly form.
Pets (with your vet’s prescription)
Cats and dogs can be just as picky. With a prescription from your veterinarian, we can prepare medication in a form and flavour your pet is more likely to accept, or in a dose sized for a small animal.
Allergies and sensitivities
Some people react to dyes, gluten, lactose or other ingredients in commercial products. When appropriate, we can prepare a version without them.
Custom strengths and forms
A dose that isn’t commercially made, a capsule instead of a tablet, a cream or gel instead of something you swallow, or a few medicines combined into one: ask us and your prescriber whether compounding is an option.
